The Value of Life …

After a lot of thought and deliberation and musings, I have concluded that:

“The value of a life is directly proportional to the number of people it touches in a good way and inversely proportional to the number of people it touches in a negative way.”

When you are gone, the summation of the loss which a number of people feel is equivalent to the value of your life.

Any thoughts on this?

Modified the definition to take care of all the bad guys :)

i agree with the argument on the value of life…
though, loss isnt exactly the worth of your life…it’s the worth of your death! then again, death is life too! arghhh…this is too much philosophy!

Another friend of mine called Saurabh Shah observes (very politically and mathematically) that the correct definition would be:

“The value of a life is directly proportional to the number of people it touches in a good way MINUS the number of people it touched in a bad way”

He argues that even Osama Bin Laden would have affected some people’s lives in a good way and we need to account for that.

    I completely agree.

Hence the equation is modified above. :)

The modified equation seems quite right :)

I also feel that the propotionality constant is not a constant but it self a variable . This variable is it self directly propotional to the degree to which you touch a persons life ( In a good way or a bad way ) .

Like if I help some one do his homework or save some ones life thats not the same degree of touching someone . Though by this formula it would it would come out to

    Value of life = 2K ( K is the constant ) .

Also if I hurt someone really bad and give a chocolate to some other person

    Value of life = ( 1- 1 ) K ( K is the constant ) .

So making it more appropriate I think it would be

value of life = k1 * (touches in a good way of Degree K1 – touches in a negative way of Degree K1 ) + k2 (touches in a good way of Degree K2 – touches in a negative way of Degree K2) + …………. + kn (touches in a good way of Degree Kn – touches in a negative way of Degree Kn)
